It can be hard to provide a sense of life to electronic music - naturally, working with equipment of that disposition can lead to a loss of organic input, a disconnect between the being behind the operating and the machine being worked upon (which is a path that can be explored in and of itself). Two Lenses is an album that avoids this procedure, standing as a piece of art wrapped in glowing layers of warmth. A natural feeling pervades the recording, syncing well with the attempt to imbue harsh circuitry with flowing lifeblood, to reconcile the cold with the breathing. This reconciliation extends far beyond these two disparate elements too, as the whole record generally deals with the dissolving of rigid dichotomies. This can be seen in the very nature of Bryter Layter, a duo of musicians more than respected on their own within the contemporary underground climate, coming together in attempt to create a work of art that stands on its own. The theme of love between runs central throughout, attempting to harmonize with another, and working with the difficulties and relishing the possibility of unity and triumph. Heart warming, beautiful, and awe-inspiring.
